"Anyone know the steps involved in putting in a new drivers side window. I looked through the Betnly, no real step by step there. Does anyone know of a site, or simply know the steps?"

(sorry, no pictures yet...)

Remove inner door panel:

  • locate small cap inside of rear veiw mirror and pop it out
  • remove screw behind that cover
  • remove plastic triangle inside rear view mirror
  • remove lower rear view mirror fixing screw that is over door panel tab
  • undo two large screws accessible from below door pull
  • Loosen door pull by pulling away from panel slightly and rotate downwards and forward until upper mounting location will pull out (it is a bayonet-style attachment)
  • pry off small cover under latch release trigger
  • remove screw under latch release trigger
  • slide plastic trim off latch release trigger
  • unscrew door locking knob
  • remove small screw near middle front of door panel
  • remove small screw near upper rear of door panel
  • 85-on, remove all screws holding door bucket in place
  • (cars with manual windows: pry off plastic center of winding lever, remove screw, and gently pull lever off)

Now the panel can be gently worked away from the door. Lift at the rear to clear the locking rod. If there are electrical connection, for instance for the power rear view mirror switch or aftermarket speakers, unplug them.

Set panel aside gently, with container of hardware.

To remove window, locate the bracket at the lower edge of the glass that is affixed to the window regulator mechanism.

Position the window where it is easy to access the two bolts holding the bracket on the glass to the bracket on the regulator.

Undo the bolts, and start maintaining control of the glass with your third hand.

It is most likely going to be easier to now lower the regulator, to get it out of the way a bit.

The glass should be able to be slid down and towards the car body, getting it out of the door frame.

Installation, as they say, is the opposite of removal...

The glass should not be tightened to the regulator until you have ensured that it is aligned properly over its entire range of motion.
